On the Mississippi and Memphis (October 13)

Levee work on a Sunday suggested a certain sense of urgency. This would be in keeping with what we had heard about the likely increase in water level as the US Army Corps of Engineers releases more water to get the levels in the Upper Mississippi, Missouri and other rivers before winter comes.

We arrived at the outskirts of Memphis about one o'clock.
As we approached the ramp, two fishermen kept sitting there watching our approach until they realize that we were coming right at them, at which point one was heard to remark, "What the hell!?"

It was only when we docked that we were told that we would not be docking at Beale Street Landing as suggested, but rather the north end of Harbor Town which is at the north end of Mud Island, relegating us to a residential boondocks of the city.

Six of us decided to go for a walk. There was a nice multi-use path that seemed to run the length of Mud Island.  We kept going, getting steadily closer to 'the pyramid', eventually committing to going there.
We had heard various stories about why the pyramid was built. I liked the one about an entrepreneur trying to corner the professional gaming market in Memphis.  The actual story was blander.

The current occupant is an amazing Bass Pro Shop complete with hotel.

After a drink in the bar at the top of the pyramid, we prepared to head back to AMERICA. Pam and Nancy chose to walk. Bruce and I decided a thorough system test of Uber services in Memphis was important to experience first-hand and therefore reluctantly rode back to the boat.
Although the Uber test was successful, we opted not to head into the city for dinner.
